Home care is formal health care or supportive care provided in the patient's home by healthcare professionals. The service is based on personal nurture and medical needs. Home health care clients are elderly, disabled and long-term ill citizens. Their need of home care is assessed individually together with the client and an individual care and service plan is produced. Home care may be either regular or temporary.

Home care is charged as specified in the Client Fee Act.
Home care is divided into 22 regional small-district service areas. Service chiefs are responsible for each of the areas.
