Arvo Pärt: Cantus in Memoriam Benjamin Britten
Eduard Tubin: Concerto for Double Bass
Gustav Mahler: Symphony no. 4 in G major
It is time to celebrate the centenary of the independence of Estonia, our southern neighbour! The orchestra’s own Principal Double Bass, Mikko Multamäki, takes centre stage in the Concerto by Estonian composer Tubin. The melancholy but beautiful Cantus in memoriam Benjamin Britten is one of the most popular works of the likewise Estonian composer Pärt. The concert concludes with Mahler’s massive Symphony no. 4, which is built around the solo song that is heard as its fourth movement, performed by Essi Luttinen: Das himmlische Leben (Heavenly life).
The length of the concert is approx. 2 h.
