Symphonic and jazz music meet – with a touch of fiddlerish musicianship – as a diverse group of talented musicians assembles on the Concert Hall stage. Atso Almila conducts the world premiere of a new work by Verneri Pohjola, 2015 Flame Jazz artist and the Fifth Symphony of Carl Nielsen (whose 150th anniversary is celebrated this year), which includes the first improvised side drum solo in the history of symphonic music.
