Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet no. 6 in F minor ”Requiem for Fanny”
Gustav Mahler: Piano Quartet in A minor
Dmitri Shostakovich: Quintet in G minor

May’s chamber music recital is dedicated to piano and strings. Mahler wrote his Piano Quartet in A minor at the age of 16, while studying at the Vienna Conservatory. By contrast, Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in F minor was his last major work: he died only two years after its completion, having dedicated the work as a memorial to his sister Fanny, who had died earlier in the same year. Shostakovich’s Piano Quintet in G minor is his best-known chamber music work.

The length of the concert is approx. 1,5 h.
