Juha Viljanen

Juha Viljanen, born in Turku, spent the first years of his life frolicking on the vast plains of Nättinummi. At the age of 4, he gained a new friend when one of his family members placed a violin under his chin. His teacher of choice was the Turku-based violin master Juha-Pekka Vikman. Little did he know that the young budding violinist would later play with his teacher as colleagues in Turku's finest symphony orchestra, the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.

Later, his studies continued at the Turku Conservatory under the guidance of Araik Resjani. Viljanen played for many years in the youth symphony orchestra Vivo. He considers this period extremely important as a learning experience as a musician, and he also got to know many current professional musicians. Through Vivo, he also attended courses led by Hungarian violin professor Vilmos Szabadi. Viljanen's violin studies continued at Indiana University in the USA under the guidance of Yuval Yaron.

In addition to music, Viljanen is interested in sports, both the physical training and as a spectator. His favorite sports include cycling, soccer, skiing, swimming, and triathlon. What they all have in common is that they have led to numerous strains and injuries in his body.

Viljanen has also built several different buildings. It's satisfying to see the tangible results of his own work.
