Matti Koponen

Matti Koponen began his violin studies at the age of three, under the guidance of Marja Olamaa at the Käpylä Music Institute. Later on, Koponen became a student of Seppo Tukiainen at the youth department of the Sibelius Academy whilst Päivyt Meller was the teacher in the Academy's performing arts line.

Matti Koponen has worked as a freelancer in many professional orchestras in Finland. He has had long-term substitute positions, including in the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, and the Lapland Chamber Orchestra, where he served as the leader of the second violins in the fall of 2013. Koponen served as the first concertmaster of the Lappeenranta City Orchestra from 2014 to 2018. In August 2018, Koponen started as the concertmaster of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. Additionally, Koponen is one of the concertmasters of the Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra.

Koponen frequently performs as a chamber musician. In recent years, he has been a sought-after performer at events such as the Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival, the Sysmä Summer Sounds, and the Chamber Music Festival of Kaakko.
