Niamh McKenna

Niamh McKenna (born 1991) is a German-Irish flutist currently holding the position of principal flutist with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. She has studied in Lübeck, Freiburg, Basel and Amsterdam with teachers such as Angela Firkins, Felix Renggli and Kersten McCall. Since 2015 she is enrolled at the Sibelius Academy in the class of Petri Alanko. Niamh has played in the Basel Symphony Orchestra, Freiburg Philharmonic, Lübeck Philharmonic, as well as the Concertgebouw Chamber Orchestra, European Youth Orchestra and Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra. In 2013 she won the audition for the orchestra academy of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and subsequently spent one year playing in the orchestra and enjoying intensive teaching through the members of the Concertgebouw woodwind section. Since moving to Finland, Niamh has been in demand as a principal flute substitute in the Finnish Radio Orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta. She is currently on contract as co-principal flute in the Finnish Radio Orchestra. Niamh has performed as a soloist and chambermusician in numerous festivals like Kuhmo Festival as well as the Crusell Festival Uusikaupunki, KuruFest Ylöjärvi, Schiermonnikoog festival (NL) and the Turku Music Festival.
