Spring season opening with Matti Salminen, king of the basses

Turku Philharmonic Orchestra´s spring season begins on Thu 11th and Fri 12th of January at 7 pm in the Concert Hall. Chief conductor Leif Segerstam conducts the concerts and we will hear Matti Salminen, one of the most distinguished bass singers of our time, and Kaisa Ranta, one of the country´s  leading sopranos, as soloists.

The concerts begin with Max Regers popular tone poem Die Toteninsel and continue with Modest Mussorgsky´s song cycle Songs of Dances and Death. The four songs are interpreted by Matti Salminen. After the intermission the concerts end with Ludwig van Beethovens powerful and dramatic incidental music to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s play Egmont. This popular suite of music for the stage accompanies the tale of the heroic life of Count Egmont in the 16th century.  Matti Salminen recites the texts and Kaisa Ranta sings Klärchen´s songs.

Konsertteja ennen järjestetään Varaslähtö ala-aulan kahviossa klo 18. Tilaisuudessa tutustutaan illan ohjelmaan ja haastatellaan illan taiteilijoita. Torstain konsertti lähetetään myös suorana osoitteessa www.tfo.fi/live. Torstain konserttiin on mahdollista ostaa Some Seat -lippu ja jakaa konserttikokemus reaaliajassa sosiaalisessa mediassa.
