Ryan Bancroft, winner of the international Malko Competition for conductors, presents a diverse programme that opens with a mystical and fantastic work by Anatoly Lyadov, The Enchanted Lake. Scottish composer MacMillan is featured with an interesting and compelling concerto for percussion and orchestra, based on the Advent hymn of the title. The soloist is Simone Rubino, an emerging Italian percussionist in high demand. The evening concludes with one of Rachmaninoff’s greatest hits.
