CANCELLED: Public dress rehearsal (for school groups only): Perko plays Parker

This dress rehearsal is only for school and kindergarten groups.

Jukka Perko, saxophone
Turku Philharmonic Orchestra

The year 2020 marks the centenary of the birth of jazz legend Charlie Parker. Known as ‘Bird’, Parker was a virtuoso sax player and an ingenious improviser. Jukka Perko, who has studied Parker’s style in depth and has played with distinguished ensembles such as Dizzy Gillespie’s orchestra, has a dazzling instrumental skill that has been compared to that of the young Parker. Thus dubbed ‘Little Bird’, Perko here performs arrangements for chamber orchestra and jazz quartet of American showtunes tailored for Parker in the 1940s. Bird lives!
