Helena Juntunen is one of Finland’s foremost soprano singers and has attained considerable international fame as well. She appears as soloist in Knoxville, Summer of 1915, a dreamy and idyllic image of a summer night in the US South, setting a prose poem by James Agee. The programme begins with music by Copland to Irwin Shaw’s play Quiet City and ends with a chamber orchestra version of Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, principally known for incorporating the song ‘Das himmlische Leben’.
The length of the concert is about 2 h. Intermission.
