This programme is dedicated to music from the turn of the 20th century. The 150th anniversary of Roussel’s birth is celebrated in 2019. His unique style is a blend of Impressionism and compelling rhythms. Honegger is known for his dramatic and powerful style. Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht [Transfigured Night] is an early work and one of his most frequently performed. It was inspired by the eponymous poem by Richard Dehmel where a walk at night transforms into a relationship drama.
1 h. No intermission.
