Aapo Kyyhkynen

Aapo Kyyhkynen, born in 1993, began studying double bass in 1999 at the East Helsinki Music Primary School under the guidance of Lasse Lagercrantz. He continued his studies at the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki, initially under Lagercrantz's guidance and later as a student of Juho Martikainen. Kyyhkynen graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree in the autumn of 2017. That same autumn, he was selected to join the double bass section of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra. Even before joining the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Kyyhkynen took on several substitute positions in the double bass section of the orchestra while pursuing his studies. Currently, he continues his master's studies at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Aapo Juutilainen.

Kyyhkynen has a special interest in early music. In addition to his permanent job, he has performed with ensembles such as the Finnish Baroque Orchestra and the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra. He has studied baroque double bass at the Sibelius Academy under the guidance of Maria Vahervuo.
