Anna-Liisa Räsänen

Anna-Liisa started trombone studies at the age of thirteen in Jyväskylä under the guidance of Matti Korhonen. Räsänen finished high school at the Kaustinen College of Music and continued to the Sibelius Academy in 2000, and studied as a student of Simo Kanerva, Teppo Alestalo, and John Kotka. During her studies, she took also a year-long detour to the trombone class of Ingemar Roos at the Gothenburg’s Academy of Music and Drama. Her master’s studies finished in 2008 when she completed the level A studies with honors at the Sibelius Academy.

Anna-Liisa started to perform actively with orchestras already during her studies. In addition to shorter assignments with orchestras, such as, the Finnish Chamber Orchestra and Tapiola Sinfonietta, she has worked as the interim section principal trombonist at the Orchestra of the Finnish National Opera (2006-2008) and interim second soloist trombonist at the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra (spring 2011). Since 2009 Räsänen has held the position of section principal trombonist at the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.

Alongside her work at the orchestra, Anna-Liisa gives trombone lessons in Turku and Naantali. She is also a founding member of the Turku Jazz Orchestra and a mother.
