Matti Kariluoto

Matti Kariluoto began playing the cello at the age of 8, but after five years, he transitioned to studying at the Riihimäki Music Institute under the guidance of Juha Pesonen, focusing on the double bass. He later chose Turku Arts Academy for his studies, where he was taught by Olli Lehtinen and Mikko Multamäki.

Kariluoto fully utilized the time allocated for his degree and specialization studies, and then some, which allowed him to gain valuable work experience with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kymi Sinfonietta, the Tampere Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra. He joined the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra as a permanent member in early 2007.

Musically, Kariluoto is particularly drawn to the style of the Romantic era and all kinds of chamber music. This passion has led him to work at the Naantali Music Festival and the Turku Music Festival, often behind the scenes or behind the wheel of a car. Taking care of his health is also important to him, which he manages through commuting by bicycle and participating in triathlon sports.
