Petri Tulonen

Turku-native Petri Tulonen has received a thoroughly Turku-centric music education. He began playing the violin at the age of 8 at the excellent Puolala music school under the guidance of Ilkka Viljanen. His musical journey continued at the age of 10 at the Turku Conservatory, with Juha-Pekka Vikman and Simo Vuoristo as his inspiring teachers. His professional studies at the Turku Conservatory started under Vuoristo's guidance and continued under Araik Resjani. Tulonen also participated in master classes given by Yair Kless during his studies.

Tulonen's career with the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra began in 1989 as a substitute, and he held various temporary positions until 1995. After completing his studies to become a music school teacher, he was appointed to a permanent position in the second violin section of the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.

In his free time, Tulonen enjoys immersing himself in culture, spending time at his cottage, and pampering his wife. He holds a special place in his heart for black-and-white spectator sports. Therefore, Erkki Liikanen's endlessly stirring and emotionally moving song "Maali se on Hunajata," which ends with the words "Oh, Oh, soi viulu" ("Oh, Oh, the violin plays"), is one of his top 5 favorite pieces.
