Beethoven with Olli Mustonen and opening of the Little Overture

Olli Mustonen, conductor and piano
Jaakko Kortekangas, baritone

Ludwig van Beethoven: Coriolan Overture op. 62
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto D-major op. 61a
Olli Mustonen: Symphony no. 1 ‘Tuuri’

Olli Mustonen is not only one of Finland’s most prominent pianists: he has a triple role as conductor, pianist and composer, as indeed in this programme. Beethoven’s romantic violin concerto is one of the most popular pieces in the world. In the concert we will hear Beethoven´s arrangement of the piece for piano and orchestra. The interval is followed by Mustonen’s ‘Tuuri’ Symphony, based on the poem of that name in Eino Leino’s collection Helkavirsiä [Whitsongs]. The demanding vocal part is performed by Jaakko Kortekangas.

Little Overture before the concert at 18.15 in the Concert Hall. Performers are students of Turku Conservatory.
