Julian Rachlin foreword for Autumn season 2020

It is a great honour to welcome you to the Autumn 2020 season of the Turku Philharmonic!

20/21 marks the fourth season of my journey with the orchestra. What started with two performances as a guest conductor in 2015 has led to a remarkable joint exploration of the musical canon over the last three years.

In November we continue the 250th birthday celebration of Ludwig van Beethoven with a programme dedicated entirely to the great composer. In particular, I look forward to performing his Septet with the wonderful section leaders of the orchestra, marking a new milestone in our relationship. Other highlights in the season include Andrea Portera´s “Klecksophonic Lieder”, the winning piece of the 2818-2019 International Uuno Klami Composition Competition, featuring soprano Valentina Coladonato. Finally, I want to warmly welcome the new Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the orchestra, Olli Mustonen.

As we continue our journey, I am exceptionally grateful to work with what I am convinced is one of the greatest regional orchestras in Northern Europe. I am excited for the perspective of the orchestra receiving a new much-needed and well-deserved hall, and I’m thankful for the unfailing support of the unique audience in Turku.

See you at the concerts!
Julian Rachlin
