Petr Tchaikovsky: Voyevoda op. 78
Carl Nielsen: Flute Concerto
Jean Sibelius: Nocturne op. 51/3
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov: Sheherazade op. 35

Here, our Artistic Director Olli Mustonen has come up with a programme from the world of fairy tales and in a storytelling mode. Janne Thomsen is one of Denmark’s most prominent flautists and performs the Flute Concerto of his great compatriot Carl Nielsen in this opening concert of our spring season. Sibelius’s lovely Nocturne is from his incidental music to the play Belshazzar’s Feast. Tchaikovsky’s handsome tone poem Voyevoda, based on a poem of the same name, provides a brilliant opening to a programme that concludes equally brilliantly in the world of the Arabian Nights with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Sheherazade.
